The Fund

The "Tan Ah Tah - SAWL Fund" ("the Fund") was established in December 1987 by the Singapore Association of Women Lawyers (SAWL) in memory of the late Honourable Mr Justice Tan Ah Tah, who was one of the most supportive High Court judges of SAWL in the early years of SAWL. The Fund was registered as a Charity with the Commissioner of Charities since 1987 and in 2009, achieved the Institution of Public Character (IPC) status.

The Fund is in aid of education for physically disabled students. Scholarship Awards under the Fund:

The scholarships are to be awarded to candidates who must be either citizens or permanent residents of Singapore and physically handicapped (including one who is from any approved charity as defined under the Income Tax Act or any society duly registered under the Societies Act) who are in need of financial assistance. The Fund is governed by Trust Deeds and administered by 6 trustees. All the following trustees are members of SAWL:-

The trustees of the Fund review the applications of pre-existing scholarship holders and potential applicants based on the Fund's criteria and the trustees have sole discretion to approve the applications.

Candidates pursuing education at secondary, pre-university levels or junior colleges, at polytechnics, vocational institutes or Singapore universities are eligible to apply for the scholarships. For details of eligibility and the criteria, please refer to the application form.
